Policy Statement and Objectives

The primary objective of this policy is to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health arising from our cleaning work. All work will be carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, industry standards, and good practice for professional cleaning operations.

Management Responsibilities

Management at Waterloo Cleaner has overall responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of this Health and Safety Policy. This includes ensuring that sufficient resources, information, training, and supervision are provided so that work can be carried out safely and effectively.

Employee Responsibilities

All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees are expected to cooperate fully with Waterloo Cleaner in implementing this policy and must:

Follow all safety instructions, site rules, and method statements for cleaning tasks.

Use chemicals, tools, and equipment only as trained and authorised.

Wear and maintain personal protective equipment as provided.

Report hazards, defects, accidents, incidents, and near misses to their supervisor without delay.

Refrain from horseplay, misuse of equipment, or any behaviour that could endanger themselves or others.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Waterloo Cleaner undertakes risk assessments for all routine and non-routine cleaning tasks, including office cleaning, residential cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning, deep cleans, and specialist work such as high-level or post-construction cleaning.

Risk assessments consider hazards such as slips, trips and falls, manual handling, contact with chemicals, working at height, electrical safety, and lone working. Based on these assessments, safe working procedures are prepared and communicated to staff through training, written instructions, and on-site supervision.

Employees are not permitted to carry out tasks for which a risk assessment has not been completed or for which they have not received adequate training and instruction.

Warning signs will be used where necessary, particularly when floors are wet or when work may affect others using the area. Employees will familiarise themselves with site-specific emergency procedures, including fire exits, assembly points, and first aid arrangements.

Training, Supervision, and Communication

Waterloo Cleaner provides induction and ongoing training to all employees covering health and safety responsibilities, safe cleaning methods, equipment use, chemical safety, emergency procedures, and incident reporting. Additional task-specific training is provided for specialist activities.

Supervisors will regularly observe working practices, provide guidance and corrective feedback, and ensure that staff understand and follow safety instructions.
